SYNOPSIS

As a politically engaged film school student, Ike Bertels saw a BBC documentary about Mozambique’s liberation movement FRELIMO. She was touched by the image of three guerrilla girls her age cleaning their rifles and risking their lives in a 10-year liberation struggle against the Portuguese colonists. She tracked them down and filmed them, first in 1984 and again in 1994, gaining their trust and becoming an ‘outsider insider’ in Monica, Amelia and Maria’s world.
